Purest water flows down the mountain side,
But the spirit here has never been seen, hair nor hide,
Why would she flit away come the eyes of man,
Why would she run as fast as she can,
Because she was hurt before and never forgot the pain,
Of being left alone in misery's rain,
How could a few words so horribly break her,
What could pull a hiss from a kitten's gentle purr,
She was broken then and still is now,
And only she will ever know how,
The last was the example of the worst in men,
So it will be awhile before she can trust again,
Never loved but plenty lost,
Denied the prize but still had to pay the cost,
Never winning another's love when giving hers away,
Hopefully she will win back her love someday.
